A vehicle-borne improvised explosive device exploded in Al Shuhail town, in Al Busaira sub-district in the eastern countryside of Deir Ezzor on February 21st 2019, and resulted in death and injury of dozens of civilians.
Al Shuhail town is located in the north of Euphrates River and held by Syria Democratic Forces. It is one of the areas that were captured by SDF within the military operation of Al Jazeera Storm, with support of the US-led coalition.

JFL’s field researcher says “At 03:00 PM, a car exploded as it was parked on the road side nearby the Dar Al Shifa’a specialized hospital. It exploded when a vehicle passed by as it was transporting personnel who work in Al Omar Oil Field”.
Dozens of civilians were injured and hospitalized to Al Busaira town. JFL documented the death of ten persons at least as a result of the explosion.
The field researcher confirmed that “There are no military headquarters nearby the explosion location and the closest military one is 2km away. The explosion targeted a civilian area that is heavily populated. The perpetrator/ part behind the explosion has not been identified yet. The initial investigations are still ongoing by the time this report was written”.
