At the invitation of Justice for Life Organization and PÊL – Civil Waves Organization, a Syrian consultative meeting was held in Berlin on December 14-15, 2024, to discuss the role of civil society after the fall of the Assad regime.
The participants reviewed all developments that have occurred since the regime’s fall on December 8, 2024, and identified a set of priorities essential for achieving an inclusive and non-discriminatory political transition in Syria.
These priorities include:
- Ceasing Hostilities and Starting a Comprehensive National Dialogue:
An inclusive national dialogue involving all parties must begin to initiate the transitional process. - Inclusive Political Process:
All components and regions of Syria should participate in designing and launching the political process. - Centrality of Transitional Justice:
Transitional justice must be prioritized to achieve lasting peace in Syria. - Preservation of Syria’s Territorial Integrity:
Preventing division and maintaining Syria’s territorial unity is crucial. - Monitoring Violations and Abuses:
Human rights violations and abuses committed by all military forces controlling areas in Syria must be monitored during the current and upcoming phases. - Urgent Need for Decentralization:
Decentralization is essential for sustainable development, preventing the resurgence of authoritarianism, and ensuring genuine participation by all Syrians.
Justice for Life Organization and PÊL – Civil Waves Organization affirm the necessity of Syrian-Syrian dialogue at this critical stage. In this spirit, both organizations will strive to continue such consultations inside and outside Syria.
