Since 2011, Syria has been witnessing gross violations associated with attempts to conceal the truth, particularly for detainees, missing persons, forcibly disappeared, extrajudicial killings, mass graves, forced displacement and other egregious human rights violations.
Actions to hide the truth in Syria are continuing, most notably campaigns targeting human rights organizations and the families of victims seeking to reveal the fate of their relatives, who are forcibly detained and disappeared, as well as holding suspects accountable by the available judicial means.
On 24 March of each year, the Justice for Life organization pays tribute to the efforts of local and international human rights organizations to document violations in Syria and ensure making use of various opportunities in the course of justice.
Justice for Life emphasizes the importance of the right to know the truth and to administer justice, the right of the victims’ families and society as a whole to know the full and undiminished truth, the need for fair investigations aimed at truth and justice for the victims, the need to continue the process of documentation and the preservation of documentations and evidence collected.
The Justice for Life organization calls on the United Nations to act more to support the course of justice in Syria to ensure that the victims’ families have access to the truth and non-impunity.
