ISIS has stopped the operations of the medical organizations as soon as it controlled the province in July 2014, and many cases were discovered especially in Sbaikhan village. ISIS carried out the first campaign for eradicating polio few months ago and could not cover more than 30% of the province children since the fixed centers , not mobile teams, that did this mission as well as the campaign was not enough publicly announced. This led to the fact that many people had no idea about the date and place.
Based on the joint statement that issued in January 2014 by World Health Organization and UNICEF, 650,000 children were vaccinated for polio, including 116,000 children in Deir Ezzor province after an emergency call for avoiding the outbreaks. According to this statement, the confirmed cases in that time were 18 , and this is a high number as it may cause infection cases that run rampant with no discrimination and across borders.
